On July 19, Memphis guard Sincere Parker was charged with aggravated assault and vandalism after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend on May 27 in an apartment in downtown Memphis.
The victim in this incident, who has not been named, reported it to authorities on June 12 after the 22-year-old “pushed her, struck her in the face, then grabbed her neck and applied pressure which impeded her ability to breathe normally,” and proceeded to break her iPhone after an argument, according to the police affidavit.
A warrant for Parker’s arrest was issued on Friday after he was positively identified by the woman in a picture on July 15, adding that she was “fearful for her safety.” He is currently being held in Shelby County jail with a $120,000 bond, which was set early Sunday morning.
“The University of Memphis is aware of the situation and cannot comment on an active investigation,” said a spokesperson for the school.
The 6-foot-3 native of Rockford, Illinois, was expected to become the starting shooting guard for this upcoming season after transferring from McNeese State in April, where he averaged 12.2 points per game on a 43.7% clip from the field and about 31% from beyond the arc. It is currently unclear whether or not he will face any disciplinary action from the school at this time.
