Bowling Green defeated the NAIA Taylor University Trojans, 107-43, on Monday night at home, recording its first win of the season.
During the Veterans Day game, the Falcons (1-2) jumped out to an early 18-11 lead, as the Trojans struggled from beyond the arc, starting just 1 of 10. At the same time, the Falcons started the game 3 of 6 from 3 to force the Trojans into their first time out.
Out of the timeout, the Falcons continued to light up the basket from deep, starting the game shooting 6 of 9 from the 3-point line. Marcus Johnson had the hot hand, starting the game shooting 4 of 4 from 3 and 5 of 5 from the field to propel the Falcons to a 33-14 lead halfway through the first half.
The Trojans kept returning to what wasn’t working for them in the first half going just 2 of 19 from 3.
Johnson led the way for the Falcons finishing the first half with 16 points and leading the Falcons to a huge 36-point lead.
Trojans forward Pete Combs led the team in scoring with just six points in the first half.
Leading 59-23 at the beginning of the second half, Youssef Khayat left his mark on the game, scoring double-digits and helping the Falcons go on a 13-2 run to gain a 47-point lead.
Through the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Falcons went out to a 25-6 run to hold their largest lead of the game at 57 points.
The Falcons bench played a large part for Todd Simon’s squad, totaling 52 points to the Trojans’ 25 bench points.
Bowling Green’s defense forced 20 turnovers, which led to 40 points.
As a team, the Falcons shot 60% from the field. The Falcon finished with five players recording over 10 points, with Johnson leading the way with 19.
The Falcons recorded their first win dominantly, winning by 66 points in the largest win of the Simon Era.
