St. Bonaventure lands Italian standout Achille Lonati

In April, St. Bonaventure signed 18-year-old Italian Achille Lonati. Lonati, a highly touted prospect, was one of the major grabs by general manager Adrian Wojnarowski so far in the offseason.

Lonati, a 6-foot-5 guard, played for the senior Milan team in Italy, playing against former NBA players Nikola Miritic and Armoni Brooks. In the 2024-25 international season, Lonati averaged 17.6 points on 37.3% from 3 in five games. This stretch of games was a determining factor in gaining attention from schools like VCU, Xavier, Georgia Tech, Cal, and ultimately, St. Bonaventure.

There’s no doubt that a highly distinguished name like Wojnarowski and legendary Bonnies coach Mark Schmidt played big roles in Lonati’s decision to play in the Reilly Center.

“Huge thanks to Coach Schmidt, Woj, and everyone at SBU for making my visit truly special,” said Lonati on an Instagram post announcing his commitment.

Wojnarowski, Schmidt, and other members of the athletics department have high praise for Lonati, as his size and shooting ability have the potential to help round out the new roster.

“He is among the most accomplished young guards in Europe and a player that we believe has been well-prepared to become a key member of our program,” said Wojnarowski.

After a lackluster ending to last season, the Bonnies have made strong additions in the offseason as they try to field an improved roster heading into the upcoming season.
