Jacari Lane has been the driving force behind North Alabama’s impressive start to the season. His standout play on both ends of the floor has helped the Lions begin the year with one of their best openings in program history as they chase their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth at the Division I level.
The junior guard has dominated offensively, leading the team with 21.4 points per game while shooting an elite 43.8% from beyond the arc. Lane consistently steps up as the focal point of the Lions’ offense, delivering big performances when his team needs him most.
But what’s behind this leap? For Lane, it’s been about more than just stats.
“I’ve focused on being a leader,” Lane said. “My teammates believe in me every day, and that gives me the confidence to take my game to the next level.”
A key part of Lane’s development has been his improved 3-point shooting. After connecting at a solid 36.2% last season, he’s now knocking down 43.8% of his attempts, becoming a consistent weapon from beyond the arc.
“Coach really emphasized the three-ball this offseason,” he explains. “He told me being a consistent threat outside would open up the rest of my game. I worked on it for hours with my teammates, and it’s paying off.”
In an era where mid-major stars often seek greener pastures, Lane’s decision to stay at North Alabama speaks volumes about his character. The Lions were among the first schools to recruit him during a challenging COVID-19 period, and that loyalty made an impression.
“Coaching and loyalty,” he said. “They believed in me when not many others did, and that’s something I don’t take for granted.”
In his third season, Lane hopes to lead North Alabama to its first ASUN championship and history in March. His motivation? The chance to etch the Lions’ name into NCAA Tournament lore.
“We’ve got big goals—ASUN champs, Player of the Year for me,” he said with a smile. “But it’s about staying confident in myself and my teammates. If we believe in each other, anything is possible.”
Lane’s journey from hometown standout to ASUN leader is one of growth, grit and loyalty—a story the Lions hope will culminate in a historic March Madness run.
